In practical terms, that means no casual stripping on a driveway with oil running into the ground, no abandoned shell with a battery left attached, and no guessing about where waste goes next. You do not need to turn that into a parts-salvage project at home. A standard collection from the right facility should be enough for a worn-out family car, a school-run hatchback, or a van that has reached the end of its working life. Before the vehicle leaves, decide whether any parts are being kept, whether the car still has any usable items, and whether the collection route is going to an ATF. If the answer is yes, the process stays straightforward: the vehicle goes through the proper treatment route, reusable parts may be recovered where suitable, and the rest is handled through depollution and recycling.
That leaves you with the part that matters after the car is gone: a proper disposal trail, rather than a loose pile of parts and questions.
